AWLA Nigeria Celebrates Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s

The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Nigeria extends congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her well-deserved re-appointment as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) for a second term.

The AWLA Country Representative, Falilat Oluwatoyin Orire said “Congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her reappointment as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation. This remarkable achievement is a resounding endorsement of her exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to promoting global trade and economic growth.

“As the first woman and first African to lead the WTO, she has shattered glass ceilings and inspired countless individuals, particularly African women, around the world.

Throughout her first tenure, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has demonstrated remarkable skill and agility in navigating the WTO through complex global economic issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath.”

Mrs. Orire continued that “Mrs Okonjo-Iweala’s commitment to promoting inclusive trade and economic growth has been evident in her efforts to support the integration of developing countries and least-developed countries into the global trading system.

“The African Women Lawyers Association celebrates this achievement as a milestone for African women and a powerful affirmation of their capabilities in leadership positions.

The African Women Lawyers Association is confident that Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s second term will bring continued success and progress in promoting global trade and economic cooperation.” Orire added.
