The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), Nigeria, wishes to address and correct a misleading disclaimer recently circulated by a breakaway faction within the organization. The disclaimer, signed by one Dr. Grace Ajaegbo — who falsely claims to be the Public Relations Officer — is not only unauthorised but also misleading and unrepresentative of AWLA’s legitimate leadership.
We reaffirm that all ongoing preparations for the upcoming AWLA International Conference are fully sanctioned and managed by the recognized Country Representative, Oluwatoyin Falilat Orire, and her duly appointed executive team. This team is the only body recognized by the International President, Mandy Asagba, and AWLA’s international leadership.
The AWLA International Conference remains a cornerstone of our commitment to professional development, gender justice, and legal advocacy. Contrary to the circulated claims, all conference activities — including photoshoots and coordination efforts — are aligned with AWLA’s mission and approved by relevant international officers.
It is unfortunate that a small faction continues to sow division and confusion within AWLA for personal reasons. We urge our members and the general public to disregard such misinformation and verify all official communications via the Country Representative’s office.
AWLA Nigeria stands for unity, professionalism, truth, and progress. No individual or group holds the exclusive right to represent AWLA or undermine its integrity. We remain committed to working collaboratively toward the empowerment and advancement of African women lawyers.
